www.SouthernAfricaBibleCollege.Org IN THE NEW MILLENNIUMSABS 33rd Annual Lectureship September 26 to 29 with special guest speakers Jeremiah Cummings and Albert GardnerMEET ONE OF OUR SPEAKERS JEREMIAH CUMMINGSOur speaker's life appears to be a quest leading to greatness. Jeremiah Cummings seemed destined to be a leader of men from the moment his mother gave him a Biblical name. A man of humble beginnings, Brother Cummings was reared in Augusta, Georgia by his maternal grandmother. Both his grandmother and his great-grandfather played significant roles in shaping young Jeremiah. At a tender age, Jeremiah moved to Washington, DC with his mother. It was there that "Jerry" developed his talent as a singer. He sang with Harold Melvin of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. This was a chance of a lifetime because ultimately Jeremiah joined the group as a singer. After many gold records and tours around the world, Jeremiah Cummings decided that it was time for change. The change led him to Texas where he met his wife, Nancyah. In Texas, brother Cummings began his spiritual journey by serving as a Baptist minister and even starting his own church. Later, he met minister Louis Farrakhan. The two men bonded instantly, and Jeremiah Cummings became "Jeremiah Fard Muhammad", a student of Islam. Jeremiah spent nearly a decade serving as a minister in the Nation of Islam. However, it was a great moment when Jeremiah came to know the Gospel of Jesus Christ. After a debate with Dr Jack Evans of Southwestern Christian College, Brother Cummings' heart was pricked. After two years of study, Jeremiah finally took on Christ in baptism in July 1997. Since that time, Brother Cummings has dedicated his life to Christ, speaking and proclaiming the word of God across the country. He has already baptized a couple of hundred souls into Christ. He will be the speaker to stir your heart this year. Come and hear him as he proclaims Christ.

A WORD OF THANKS...To all the congregations who helped at our annual Fundraising Event on May 1st. The Turffontein, Boksburg, and Alberton congregations were a big help again this year. Individuals, too, contributed greatly to the success of the SABS' Fete and Fun Day. SABS especially thanks Molly Strever, the convenor, and her team of Benoni church ladies who literally worked for months to make and supply items for the different stalls. Then last, but not least, of all, the day would not have gone so well if congregations in the vicinity had not come out in force and supported the event. Thank you one and all!
FROM THE MAIL BOXKennedy Mukuka ('98), pulpit preacher for Mungwi Church of Christ (PO Box 112, Mungwi, Zambia) writes to SABS: "I would like to thank you for making me a tool in God's hand. I am really enjoying being used by our heavenly Father and the church here loves to work with me. I would not take pride in whatever I do here. Instead, I will let you take that and God be glorified. For if I am a sharp effective tool in God's hands, remember you did the sharpening and oiling. In view of all this, I will keep on praying for SABS and help SABS wherever and whenever I can. Again I say thank you for making me what I am and for helping me enjoy my stay at SABS. From your delighted student, Kennedy".
GETTING TO KNOW OUR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS:Manuel Chinyanyu, 27, was born in Lusaka, Zambia, though he now considers Harare in Zimbabwe to be his home. His parents, Philimon and Emely have nine children! Manuel is the 5th child of six brothers: Mika, Maxwell, Misheck, Mufaro, and Ranganai. His sisters are Precious, Lucia, and Catherine. Manuel went to school at Alfred Beit Primary School and Ellis Robins Boys' Secondary School. He engaged in soccer, cricket, volleyball and athletics and has since added other interests: basketball, travelling, and reading. He holds an Intermediate Certificate for Accounting and has worked as an Accounts and Wages Clerk for Screenpac Ltd, a printing company in Harare, as well as for Steel Centre. Mark Schwartz taught him the gospel in Harare and he was baptised on August 25, 1995, at his home congregation in Avondale. Since then Manuel has preached on occasion and also served as Youth Leader during 1996 and 1998. His future plans call for involvement in youth church work. A well-spoken and pleasant young man, Manuel is a credit already to SABS! Philip dos Santos, 19, lists Harare in Zimbabwe as his birth place though now hails from Mutare where his family lives. His parents, Alvaro and Debbie, are faithful members of the church. The oldest child, Phillip has two brothers, Michael (17) and Jason (3) and a baby sister, Bianca. He began his education at Dudley Hall Junior School in Harare, Zimbabwe, and went on to Selby Park Junior School in Rustenburg, South Africa, then returned to Zimbabwe to attend Chancellor Junior School in Mutare. He also attended an ACE School in Zimbabwe and Browning Junior School in Gaborone, Botswana. He matriculated from Hillcrest College in Mutare and earned a business diploma there. Excelling in sports, Phillip was chosen to represent Zimbabwe in national tournaments in both basketball (3 years) and rugby (2 years). He also participated in provincial athletics for two years and this past year, was part of a rugby tour to South Africa. Other sports and interests include snooker, cycling, gym, motocross racing, go-cart racing, horse riding, and water sports. As a hobby, he enjoys upgrading and installing car sound systems. In the future, he hopes one day to take over the family business and give his father a well-earned rest. His experience out in the business world will then come in handy! He has worked in sales and fridge management for Mutare's Colcom Foods and was employed by ICCM, a shoe manufacturer in Mozambique, working in line production and stocks. Another working experience was with Manicaland Coach Builders, doing panel beating and spray painting. A tall and handsome young man, Phillip doesn't seem to show any long-term damage sustained in a cycling accident in 1990. In fact, he was hit by a car and hospitalised for 11 months with a severe back injury. SABS has a high regard for the Dos Santos family. We are glad Phillip has cast his lot with us in the study of God's Word.
