It might mean your taking leave from work, but please come and be with us. The theme this year is "Amazing Grace" and our featured speaker is Tex Williams, one-time missionary to South Africa, and head of World Bible School in Austin, TX., USA. His wife, Mary Jane, will accompany him as well as one of his sons, Shaun, who also teaches and will be speaking to our young people.
SABC 2001 ENROLLMENT"GO AHEAD AND DO IT!" is what many a wife in the past has said to her husband about coming to SABC. And so began their first step toward full-time ministry. If you are looking for a Bible College that has great teaching and access to a faculty who are focussed on and deeply committed to Christian values, then look no further. You, too, can have mountaintop moments with the Master. Catch the spirit -- experience the quality! Please note that it is not too early to apply to come to SABC in January, 2001. Send your application letter to: SABC, P O Box 11165, Rynfield 1514. Please mark your letter with the word, "Enrollment".

ADDRESSES (e-mail and "snail mail")
GETTING TO KNOW 1ST YEAR STUDENTSNTHAMBELENI NDOU, when he applied for his first identity card, chose an additional name for himself Harson. The first-born of three children, he was born to Venda parents at the village of Hatshitulwi in the district of Lwamondo. He is not sure about the year of his birth, but thinks it is 1952 or 1953. He and his wife, Zelphah, have six children ranging in age from 25-years-old down to 11. Nkhumbudzeni whose name means "Remind Me"; Ndivhuwo ("Thank you"); Ambani ("To Preach"); Talukanyani ("You must know something"); Lindelani ("Wait"), and an only daughter, Musandiwa ("Not Wanted"). Ambani, by the way, is a 1st-year student at Manzini Bible School. Harson himself started school as a boy at Maphuphe, continuing Standard 3 at Matshele School and Standard 7 at Lwamondo. His first job was in Johannesburg where he worked 4 years for Fidelity Guards. Next he studied plumbing at Sibasa's Vocational School but it was interrupted by sickness. Harson spent 6 months with tuberculosis at Venda's Siloam Hospital in Nzhelele. When discharged, he returned for another four years to Fidelity Guards in Johannesburg where he was promoted to Supervisor and Driver. Then he took a job as a forklift driver for the Railways but a nation-wide strike caused him to return to Venda. The next few years found him driving a taxi route from Venda to Johannesburg and back , and he also drove a taxi just in Johannesburg itself for awhile. Prior to coming to SABC, he worked at his home as an avocado farmer. Baptised in 1978, Harson's home congregation is Tshiawelo Church of Christ. A humble and pleasant man, Harson envisions himself as a door-to-door preacher once he completes SABC which is not surprising for a man who even named ones of his sons, "Preacher"! MATTHEW DENTON, 19, was born in Benoni. He and his parents' first contact with the Lord's church was through living next door to Lisa and Des Steyn. Then when Al Horne conducted weekly Bible Studies in their home, both Caroline and Mark were baptised. They have another child, Candice. Schools attended by Matthew reflect where they lived: Rynfield Primary, Scotsville Primary, Somerset West Primary and Hottentots Holland High School. At the latter he played first team hockey, served as a prefect, and belonged to the Wildlife Club. He also enjoys sailing, hiking, and sky-diving but his number one interest is Scouts. Active in Sea Scouts, he became a Springbok Scout (equivalent to American Eagle Scouts) last August. Then on March 15, he flew down to Cape Town where he was awarded the Wood Badge which is the highest badge in local scouting. Matthew has been employed in sales at CNA in Somerset Mall and also was a casual worker at both Chem-Dry and Explorers in Somerset West. Matthew possesses definite leadership qualities and already shows a talent as a moving speaker. As is true among the youth and general congregation from which he comes, Matthew is a popular person at SABC. He is proverbially "the life of the party" and as Craig Ross ('80) says of him, "Matthew's a special kind of guy". SABC is delighted and proud to have him as a student because we are convinced his contribution to the church will be both valuable and significant. BRONWYN BLYTH was born in June of 1981, just a month before the most famous wedding of the 20th century, so it was just natural that her middle name be "Diana". She has two brothers: 20-year-old Bruce and 14-year-old Darryn. She has the distinction of being a third-generation Christian as her mother, Beverly, was also raised in the church and her grandparents, Roy and Thelma, are SABC graduates. Roy (' 74) presently serves as pulpit minister of the Keam Road Church of Christ in East London. Bronwyn was baptised on June 11, 1995, by Derrick Bam (' 83). Her home congregation is Bothasig in Cape Town. Matriculating at Plumstead High, Bronwyn was not only a prefect but also a member of RCL (Representative Council of Learners). A skilled piano and flute player, she was awarded school colours for Music. Acting is another of her talents and she received her school colours in Drama as well. She participated in school plays such as in matric, "Joseph and His Multi-Coloured Dream Coat". School sports activity won her a place on the first team for Cross Country. A bright and intelligent young lady, Bronwyn also participated in her school's Maths Olympiads and Inter-School Debating. Her hobbies are running, reading, and writing poetry and songs. Multi-talented and loaded with personality, Bronwyn wants to pursue a career in arts or the media music, theatre or radio. She would also like to study further but at the same time recognizes that her future is in the Lord's hands.
PASSAGESBasil van As ('75) passed away on April 11 in Heidelberg after a gallant fight with liver cancer. SABS Director, Al Horne, conducted his funeral on April 18 at Benoni church and will assist with Basil's request that his ashes be retained on the SABC campus. The Bible School extends loving sympathy to his wife, Babsie, and their sons and families.
CondolencesWe extend condolences to SABS' lecturer Theo Rappard and family on the death
of his mother on April 5. Our sympathy is also extended to the family of Phil
Leibbrandt, a supporter of SABS, who passed away April 13. |
