YOU'RE INVITED TO THE MAY 1ST FUNDAY FROM 8:30 TO 15:30
You and your friends (and your friends' friends, too!) are invited to
attend our annual fund-raising event to be held on Saturday, May 1. What
a wonderful way to spend a public holiday! As usual, there will be all
kinds of stalls in the main hall selling everything imaginable from used
clothing to gift items for Mother's Day and Father's Day. "Molly's
Kitchen", a bookstore, sewing-and-crafts and a plant stall will also be
there. The usual exotic tea-garden will also feature. So bring along
your pocket money. Outdoors there will be games and sports activities
and even a Jiu Jitsu demonstration. A talent competition for all ages
will also be held! Remember, too, the FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD available --
braais, potjiekos, pancakes, hot dog and hamburger stands.
As usual, area congregations have come to the fore in helping with
the above. But without your support, it will not be a successful day.
So, PLEASE, come along and enjoy yourself while at the same time helping
the Bible School to raise much-needed funds.
1999 LECTURESHIP'S FEATURED SPEAKER
(Sept. 26-29)
Jeremiah Cummings, evangelist and
author, will be our featured speaker at this year's Lectureship. He
was formerly Jeremiah Fard Muhammad, the spiritual son of Louis
Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam. He was also the former first
tenor for the (once Double Gold Album) singing group Harold Melvin and
the Bluenotes. Now an Evangelist for the church of the Lord and a very
strong speaker, he has been on a National Tour since August of 1997,
speaking of his conversion to Christianity from Islam. He attributes it
to a five-hour debate with
Dr. Jack Evans,
President of Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas, who
was SABS' Lectureship's key note speaker two years ago. Jeremiah spent
nearly a decade serving as a minister in the Nation of Islam before his
baptism in July of '97. He will be telling us all about why he gave up
Islam and its teachings to embrace Christ and His true church. Plan now
to attend his dynamic lectures.

SABS' FIRST YEARS
HEE SOON JEOUNG is one of the best things that ever happened
to SABS. Bright, friendly, and smiling, Hee Soon soon earned the respect
and love of her fellow-students and teachers. Born in Seoul in Korea,
Hee Soon's father's name is Young Kil and her mother's name is Moon Hee
Lee. She is the fifth of six children and has two brothers (Duk Hung and
Bung Jim) and three sisters, Hee Young, Young Za, and Min Za (who has
permanent residence and lives in Kensington, Johannesburg). She was
educated at Yang Jung Primary School, Soong Wee Middle and High School
and is a graduate of Chong Shin University with a BA degree in theology
and Christian education. Before coming to SABS, Hee Soon worked for a
church in Seoul for ten years as a teacher, focussing on evangelism. Her
plans are to return to Korea and get involved in missions. During SABS'
classes taught by Theo Rappard and Dennis Malepa, Hee Soon learned of
the distinctive nature of the Lord's church and began to realize her
need to become a member. This took place on February 1st of this year
when brother Al Horne baptised her into Christ. Musically talented, Hee
Soon plays both the piano and the guitar and has a lovely singing voice.
At SABS, with her soft and calming nature, she is like a soothing
melody.
ODITA DENNY MAINZA hails from Lusaka, Zambia, where he was
born twenty years ago. From the age of five to fifteen, he lived with
his father, Peter, who was the mayor of Choma at the time of his death.
After that, Odita made his home with his uncle until he enrolled at SABS.
His mother is named Georgina and he has two siblings, Wilberforce (24)
and Ronnex (26). He attended the following schools: Choma Primary and
Secondary School and the University of Zambia during 1996-7 from which
he has a Business and Marketing Management certificate. Last year, he
pursued a diploma in marketing from Evelyn Horne College. At school, he
enjoyed table tennis, football, and was chairman of the school's Debate
Club. He also likes swimming, reading, and basketball. He attributes his
conversion to Sokontela Kanangu ('98)and his home congregation is the
Nalituwe Church of Christ. His cousin, Sanderson Sianjina, is a
third-year student at SABS and along with Sokontela, is responsible for
influencing Odita to attend the Bible School. A thoroughly nice young
man, Odita has added to the friendly atmosphere found at SABS. Upon
graduation from SABS, he plans to study further in Theology or
Management.
ERIC COLIN LANDSBERG, 20, was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. He is
the second child of five. The first-born, Marvin, 22, also enrolled at
SABS this year along with their father, Clive. Other children in the
family are Megan, 17; Natasha, 8; and Clive Jnr, 7. The mother, Alice,
works as secretary at Benoni Christian School. Eric began school at
Harare's Belvedere Primary. Moving to Pietersburg in South Africa a few
months later, the family re-located in Venda. Eric continued his
schooling at Liivha Primary and Tshikevha Christian School in
Thohoyandou. At the latter school, he was involved in school drama and
concerts. School sports included cricket, tennis, soccer, volleyball,
basketball, swimming, and baseball. This was followed by two years at
Mbilwi Senior Secondary School in Sibasa. While there, he joined the
Science Expo for Young Scientists. Last year he worked as a sales rep in
Super Spares before managing Crown Bakery. His future plans are
undecided while he focuses on his three years of SABS schooling. A
handsome young man with a million dollar smile, Eric should contribute
much in future to the Lord's work.
