Riverside/Benoni Church Bulletin--062308--"Return to Sodom"RETURN TO SODOMDon't you wonder why certain sectors of the American public want to precipitate the destruction of this God-blessed land? Are people blind? Can't they read and heed the warning signs posted from Genesis to Revelation in the Book of Books? Just because Satan has blinded the eyes of certain supreme court judges in California to the folly of legalizing gay unions is no reason to rejoice. Morality is not determined by judicial decree. In the matter of ethics, the majority does not rule--God does. "Right" has never been decided by the counting of noses. The "broadway" where most of the votes are cast leads to destruction and many blind followers dash themselves against the rocks of destruction on that route, see Matthew 7:13-14. Out West, cries of jubilation went up as 320 couples took the plunge. They totally rejected the traditional view of marriage as God has decreed it, Matthew 19:4-6, 1 Corinthians 7:2. The mayor of San Francisco performed some of the ceremonies which God calls "an abomination," Leviticus 18:22; 20:13. Particularly in the sexual realm, human beings have always tried to overstep the boundaries of decency that God has set for them, see Romans 1:24-27. The Bible says, "Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones (perversion). In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty of their perversion," Romans 1:26-27. In disputing in a debate with members of the Gay Association of South Africa (GASA), the Johannesburg Officer of Medical Health pointed out the anomaly of homosexuality. He stated that two heterosexual bodies were made to "fit" together by nature, while two of the same sex did not. He went on, "Only a male adult and female adult can bear children--two males or two females cannot! Doesn't that alone tell you something? This gay stuff is against nature; it is unnatural; it is a perversion of what is right." As far as I can remember, he was not even a particularly religious man. He did not use Bible--he used biology to substantiate his point. Nevertheless, both Bible and biology agree that such abuse of the human body is degrading and unacceptable. The cry of "homophobic" is designed to intimidate the gainsayer, but it is an emotional outburst and does not square with the facts in the case. Right is right if nobody's right, and wrong is wrong if everybody's wrong. Paul's writings show that this is an acquired behavior that can be changed by repentance and baptism. Among the sins of the Corinthians he listed was "male prostitutes and homosexual offenders" which would cause one to forfeit one's inheritance in the kingdom of God, 1 Corinthians 7:9. Then he says, "And that is what some of you were [past tense]. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." With the unacceptable behavior removed, the stigma was removed by the blood of the Lamb. Inheritance in the kingdom of God was once again a reality. This is not a new phenomenon. Back in Abraham's day, people in Sodom and Gomorrah resorted to this forbidden behavior, Genesis 19:1-29. Abraham's nephew, Lot, was living among these undisciplined people. They threatened his guests, who were in reality angels warning them! They did not realize that they were playing with "fire." As soon as Lot had evacuated his family to safety, God rained fire and brimstone on those people with the dubious morals, Genesis 19:23-25. Today we do not see molten sulfur, but a tiny little virus called HIV does the job just the same. I don't have to explain what that means. If we do not wake up, stand up and speak up, we might see our beloved land sinking beneath the waves of degradation. One day God will have had enough. His patience will come to an end. He will not always strive with man, Genesis 6:3. Let's not return to Sodom--the consequences are too ghastly to contemplate. Let's take a stand by uniting our effort to evangelize the lost and speaking out against the evils of our day in the forums of education and government.
